2008 Summer School Programs

2008 SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Northbrook School District 28

In our effort to continue to enhance and enrich the lives of our students, we will once again offer four class periods of summer school. There will be many new and exciting classes. The school day will run from 9:00a.m. until 12:55p.m. Most classes will be 55 minutes in length. Please note: Your son or daughter should be enrolled in classes that reflect the grade he or she will be entering in the 2008-2009 school year. For example, if your child is entering 4th grade, you would enroll him or her in classes designated as 4th grade classes.

Summer school will take place at Meadowbrook Elementary School this year.  Classes begin Monday, June 23, 2008, and continue through Friday, July 18, 2008. Classes will not be held Friday, July 4th due to the holiday.

Many athletic classes for the junior high students will remain at Northbrook Junior High. The following classes will take place at the Junior High: All Volleyball & Newcombe (5-8) classes, second and third period Boys Basketball (6-8), and Flag Football (6-8) during third period. All other athletic classes will be held at Meadowbrook.

Many classes during summer school involve baking or creating snacks. Due to student allergies we are requesting that children refrain from bringing any peanut products to summer school, including peanut butter sandwiches, granola bars, trail mix, etc. If your child has food allergies please avoid those classes that are marked as serving food.

The cost per class is $95.00. This year registration will be completed on line. If you need assistance you may come to the office at Meadowbrook or Northbrook Junior High for help with your online registration.  Registration ends on May 15th at midnight. Class assignments will be made upon receipt of full tuition and lab fees. Tuition is non-refundable except in the case of class cancellation. You can check for class availability on the cable access channel #15. Beginning Tuesday, February 19th you may view the summer school brochure and use the link on the district home page ww1.northbrook28.net to register for classes.

Summer band and orchestra lessons will be offered at Meadowbrook. Please contact an Instrumental Music Director at (847) 498-7920 before registering your child for summer school. Doing so will allow coordination of lessons and summer school classes.

If your child will be absent from summer school, please notify the office by calling 847-504-3615 and leave a message. You may leave a message on the voice mail at any time. Your help with this will ensure that all students arrive to school safely.

Throughout summer school, pictures of students are occasionally included in the local newspaper, in district publications, on the district’s cable television channel and on the district’s website. Any objections should be made to the Summer School Director in writing before the beginning of summer school.

Please feel free to contact me at (847) 504-3602 or rscanlan@northbrook28.net  if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance. If your child has special needs or requires accommodations, please call me.  My staff and I look forward to working with you and your child this summer.

Sincerely,

Rosanne Scanlan
Director of Summer School
